Houston Hockey History
Houston is home to 5 ice rinks totaling 6 sheets of ice. In addition, we are home to 250+ youth hockey players and many more adult players. We are home to Aerodrome Ice Rink, Bellerive Ice, ICE Skate USA, Sugar Land Ice Rink, and Spirit Ice Arena (College Station. Houston Hockey originated in the 1990s with the birth of The Houston Junior Aeros Hockey Association or as we know today as “The Wild.” Since then, we have seen the rise of 5 ice rinks with 6 sheets of ice. In addition, we have seen the birth of a full-fledged hockey academy know as Reynolds Hockey Academy Houston. To add to all this growth of hockey here in Houston, in 2017, Tilman Fertitta, a Houston Billionaire with an estimated 4.9 billion dollar net worth, stated he was interested in bringing a National Hockey League team to Houston. This paved the way for Houston Youth Hockey Group to come in and start promoting the youth sport through more community engagement and having the philosophy that all kids should be able to experience hockey. We truly believe that having the sport known at a youth level paves the way for a fan base at a professional level.
